Also, please note that those that only want to learn online should click HERE.When we are young kids our "learning" is mostly physical - how to walk, talk, play sports, etc. As we get farther and farther in school, however, we begin to think of learning as using the mind and solving problems. This is the one thing that young kids have over adults - they are more used to physical learning. You see, our minds may guide our bodies but any musical instrument is played by the hands and fingers which are far, far stupider than the mind!
What I do is give your mind the correct info so YOU can guide your body - but guide it you must. I do this by means of a free interview (for local students) and YOU do it (if not local) by means of reading an appropriate book. How do you choose what is "appropriate?" I couldn't say but I'd wager you could!
Luckily, almost everyone I've ever met can learn to play their favorite music on a keyboard of some sort. It won't happen anywhere near as quickly as some online scam artists tell you it will, unfortunately. Those folks are not honest - it CAN happen, however, much faster if it's taught properly with an eye toward what YOU need and want.Another crew of instructors are those that could be called "old school." There are tons of these - perhaps more than the simple scam artists. They propose to give recitals, enter you in to playing competitions, force a ton of exercises on you and basically have you practice everything BUT the music you really want to play. This takes too long!
Both the "old school" teachers and the scam artists who simply want your money WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME! I try to hit a "sweet spot" between too much work and not enough. If you, yourself, have fallen victim to either type of time waster, I'm not particularly offended - they say such wonderful things and make such grand promises. I don't make such promises because they are almost always false. I will NOT lie to you just to make a buck! I just promise to teach you what you need and are interested in learning and ONLY that.
Anyone past the age of puberty can see that this way is faster and more "to the point." My approach saves your valuable time! Please note that CHORDS are what I call the "royal road to making music." I offer tons of chord education, all of which is below. Many folks think that this is hard to do, too much work, and that is simply wrong. Allow me to give you something useful that you can do right NOW. Try some different sounds on your keyboard. It's easy and rewarding.

CUSTOMIZED "LIVE" SERVICE - Of course, such services are more expensive for the simple reason that they are customized to your needs - needs that you, as an adult, likely already know! Workshops are cheaper by far than private lessons but are class situations rather than "one-on-one" training. Your choice!

1. The Basic Chord and Fakebook Workshop. The advantage to you is that you will know how to form chords and what chords are important for you to learn (hint - it's not the 1200 or so that some books say! The actual number is closer to 20 than 1200!) The best thing that ever happened to my playing was finding out about and using chords and fakebooks early. I share what you need to know to benefit once a month for $100 in a 5 hour Workshop. This is 6 times cheaper than personal lessons! 2. The Advanced Chord and Chord Progression Workshop (prerequisite is the Basic Chord Workshop above!) The advantage to you is that you will know exactly how and why you can use chords in your musical life. Price and length are the same. Contact me for details.
3.Personal keyboard coaching/lessons: Your cost depends on what you need. This is the most expensive service I offer but it's also the most targeted and specific to your interests and needs, plus YOU can make it quicker and cheaper by being "energetic" in your learning! This means it is a great "value."
For those that simply must know - personal lessons are $30/half-hour (recall I've been teaching over two decades!) This really puts the cost of the workshops above into some perspective, doesn't it?
I've learned about people's interests and desire to make their favorite music on the instrument of your choice. A comparison:
Golf, Tennis, all sports The cost of the sports equipment, driving to a location where you too often have to "pay to play." If this is a team sport, then you are on their schedule, the coach's schedule, etc.
Crafts, Arts The continual cost of supplies, even once you have learned your skill.
Playing Your Favorite Music on a Keyboard of some sort: Once you have some sort of a keyboard, even a cheap one, and some skill in using it, totally FREE and done on YOUR schedule as much or as infrequently as the mood strikes you. Also, this is a hobby that will keep giving all your life. You don't actually need a band for it.
